Get to Know: Access to Justice

Access to justice isn’t just a legal concept— it’s a basic human right. It means having equal protection under the law and a real chance to be heard. But because of financial, geographic and system barriers, access to justice remains the greatest challenge to the rule of law in Canada today, particularly for Indigenous people and other equity-deserving communities. 

Use this fact sheet – developed as part of our 5-Part Public Legal Education Series – to understand what access to justice means, what barriers exist, and what supports are available.
