Workshop on Coastal and Ocean Governance for Indigenous Peoples

In October, we took part in the International Ocean Institute’s ‘Workshop on Coastal and Ocean Governance for Indigenous Peoples” at the invite of the Peskotomuhkati Nation. The Peskotomuhkati are the only Nation in Canada to have a nuclear facility on their territory and since the 1980s, nuclear operations have occured in their homeland absent their consent.

As part of a mutli-day workshop in the territory, Kerrie Blaise, LAND’s founder, was joined by Dr Susan O’Donnell (Principal Investigator, Contesting Energy Discourses through Action Research – CEDAR) to speak on the topics of energy transition, climate justice and impact assessment and Indigenous rights.

You can watch our full presentation on our YouTube channel, or view our interview and slides below.

Watch us live: Susan and Kerrie apepared on "Southwest Magazine's" broadcast from Otober 22, 2025 where they discuss the future of nuclear energy, its impact on climate action and Indigenous rights.
