LAND is proud to represent the Friends of the Attawapiskat River, a grassroots Indigenous organization based in Treaty 9, in sharing awareness about the Ring of Fire and hearing from community members at this year’s Creefest, celebrating Moose Factory’s 350th year.
The Friends have been calling for a moratorium on mining exploration in the Ring of Fire, recognizing the integral role of the muskeg (aka peatlands) in the lives and practices of communities throughout Treaty 9 and the role of the peatlands and James Bay lowlands in mitigating global climate change.
